Participation

An Environmental Assessment of the possible impacts of the project is being prepared in accordance with specific requirements set down by the Director-General of the Department of Planning. These requirements are available on the Department’s website at http://majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au

The community consultation now underway will ensure that all factors of importance to the community will be considered in the Environment Assessment.

Once the Environmental Assessment is completed it will be submitted to the Department of Planning and placed on exhibition for community comment. Submissions can be made to the Department of Planning during this period.

All submissions will be considered and the Department will prepare a report for determination of the application by the Minister for Planning under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act.

Process

The zoning of the waterway in the area permits the construction of marinas and associated works pursuant to the Sydney Regional Environment Plan (SREP) Sydney Harbour Catchment 2005.

The proponent has been granted permission by the Maritime Authority of NSW to lodge an application with the Department of Planning to construct and operate a marina with 172 berths and associated facilities.

The Environmental Assessment now being prepared will be submitted to the Department of Planning and put on display for community comment. All submissions will be considered and a report will be prepared by the Department and submitted to the Minister for Planning. The Minister will determine the application under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

Location

The proposed marina will be located at Kendall Bay, on the Parramatta River in the Canada Bay Local Government Area in Sydney’s inner west.

Proposal

The proponent has been granted permission by the Maritime Authority of NSW to lodge an application with the Department of Planning to construct and operate a marina with 172 berths and associated facilities.

The marina and jetty will provide public access and enhance the foreshore experience with the kiosk on the end of the jetty for informal get togethers.

The development will provide access for people with disabilities and facilities for use by the general public.
